Arthur Miller's devastating portrait of mass hysteria in Colonial America exposes paranoia and hypocrisy at the very roots of the American Dream. The wild fear of witchcraft spreads through Salem and casts a shadow of hatred over the town. Neighbor turns against neighbor as each citizen tries to keep the flames of suspicion from his or her door. Robert Ward's haunting score captures harrowing images of Puritan life while his soaring melodies breathe life into one man's mortal battle against his community. (Performed in English.) Other 98/99 Season Performances: Norma Regiment La Traviata |
