Diane Martindale, Artistic Director

Diane Martindale (Artistic Director) holds a Masters degree from Northwestern University in voice, piano and opera. As co-founder of Dicapo Opera Theatre with Michael Capasso, she has supervised its artistic growth for the past 25 years. Throughout her career, Ms. Martindale has served as Music Director for over 100 operas and musicals. She has prepared choirs for such notable conductors as Bruno Walter, Fritz Reiner, Dino Anagnost and Robert Bass. Ms. Martindale sang professionally with the Grant Park Chorus, the Rockefeller Chapel Choir and the Lake Forest Opera Company in Chicago where she prepared Wagner's Parsifal at Orchestra Hall with the Chicago Symphony, and the world premiere of a John Cage Opera at Northwestern University. In New York, she was Music Department Chair for the Great Neck School system for 25 years, and she prepared the chorus for Opera Northeast's American premiere production of Rossini's Elisabetta, Regina D'Inghilterra. In addition to her duties as Artistic Director for Dicapo Opera, Ms. Martindale conducts the Dicapo Childrens Chorus, a group of 40 children who performed in Hansel and Gretel live from Lincoln Center with the Juilliard Opera Theater in December 1997. The children also perform in mainstage and children's performances at Dicapo. She designs costumes as well as supervises Dicapo's volunteer staff and Dicapo's subscriber series.

Diane Martindale holds a masters degree in voice, piano and opera from Northwestern University. She has thirty-five years of experience as a music teacher and served as the chairperson of a high school music department in the New York area for many years.

In addition to Ms. Martindale's educational experience, she has served as a Music Director/Conductor for many operas, concerts and musicals. As Artistic Director of the Dicapo Opera Theatre, she prepares the adult chorus for the mainstage productions and is the costume designer for the company.
