When the Viceroy of Lima, Peru takes a fancy to a beautiful but impoverished street singer, La Périchole, it sparks a wonderful tale of treachery, mistaken identity and love. Offenbach, the king of operetta, presents great comedy characters, engaging romantic intrigues, colorful costumes, and delightful music. And, when all is said and done (and there's the fun), magnanimity rules and true love reigns.
