Dicapo celebrates the 50th anniversary of the premiere of one of the greatest and most beloved American operas. Dicapo’s Susannah production exults in its bone-deep American roots. This dramatic story of a preacher’s visit to a remote community in the Tennessee mountains, his desire for the “outcast” Susannah, and the tragic outcome of his passion, comes alive with Floyd’s soaring melodies and lush orchestral arrangements. Some have described Floyd as an American Puccini and we couldn’t agree more. When Susannah was last seen on Dicapo’s stage, the NY Times headline exclaimed: “THE POWER OF OPERA!”
